Prof. Daniele Ravì
Prof. Daniele Ravì is an Associate Professor at the University of Messina and coordinator of the AI-HealthLab research group. He also holds an honorary appointment as Associate Professor at University College London.
His research focuses on medical imaging, image-guided surgery, disease progression modelling, and smart sensing, with a strong emphasis on developing and commercialising AI pipelines for healthcare.
Ravì earned his BSc and MSc in Computer Science, followed by a PhD in Computer Vision from the University of Catania. He further enriched his academic training as a visiting PhD student at the University of Surrey and through postdoctoral positions at Imperial College London and University College London. Beyond academia, he gained industrial experience at STMicroelectronics and two startups.
Ravì has secured over €500,000 in competitive research funding through projects supported by UKRI, Horizon 2020, EPSRC, the Wellcome Trust, and Innovate UK, as well as through industrial collaborations with companies in the AI sector. He has led and coordinated research activities on AI systems for early medical diagnostics, patient monitoring, and image-guided surgery. His publication record includes over twenty journal articles in leading venues such as IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, Medical Image Analysis, and IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics, along with numerous conference papers (MICCAI, MIDL, BSN, ICIP) and a patent.
Over the years, he has supervised several PhD, MSc, and BSc students in Italy and the UK, fostering the growth of young researchers and advancing education in artificial intelligence, data science, computer vision, and programming. Ravì actively contributes to academic life through committee work, recruitment, outreach, and industry partnerships. He serves on editorial boards of major journals (e.g., Pattern Recognition, IEEE EMBS), regularly reviews for high-impact venues, and organises workshops and special sessions at international conferences. He has delivered numerous invited talks and keynotes on AI and medical technology and has served as a PhD examiner at various universities. His work integrates research leadership, supervision, and interdisciplinary networking to promote advanced AI solutions, achieving recognised impact across the European landscape of digital and personalised medicine.
